There is a reason that Miley Cyrus’s song “Flowers” is so popular!
It’s as if someone is finally giving you permission to love yourself unapologetically. Telling you that you are worthy no matter what. However, learning to love yourself can be challenging, especially as society has told you that picking yourself is selfish. The reality is that picking yourself is not only empowering but healthy! So buy yourself the dang flowers because you are worth it!
Loving Yourself First
Have you ever heard the phrase on the airplane, “Please put on your mask first, before assisting others with theirs”? This is a powerful analogy. In order to keep those you love safe, you need to first make sure you are taken care of! As you set boundaries, value your own time, and choose to make yourself a priority, you will begin to love yourself!
When you practice picking yourself, you’re practicing self-care and you’re practicing self-love.
Ways to Practice Self-Care & Self-Love
Practice self-love the way you practice self-care. Whatever makes sense for you and fills your cup is worth your time. Some examples of self-care are:
- Buy yourself the dang flowers
- Read a book
- Take a bath
- Do a form of exercise you enjoy
- Take a rest or nap
- Watch a favorite movie
- Give yourself permission
- Take a break from social media
- Speak to yourself kindly and remind yourself you are worth it
- Celebrate your ups and downs
- Ask for help when you need it
You are enough as you are. Sometimes we just need a little reminder to treat yourself with kindness, give yourself grace, and know that your worth is worth a lot.
